I do have a problem with that. From the article, it sounds like in the process of being a new league, and a league, the league has not had the foresight to put rules in place to prevent things like this happening. In Little League baseball pitchers at this age are not allowed to pitch more than 6 innings per week and must have three calendar days rest after throwing four or more innings. Not having a rule like that in place runs the risk of hurting the pitchers from overuse, and leads to the potential of ruining the league.
Solomon also pointed out that the championship team from the previous two seasons tried to get Jericho on their team but were denied and that there are other kids in the league who nearly as hard as Jericho but are much wilder, implying that these kids actually pose a greater threat than Jericho does. On further consideration, I do agree with Solomon that if this league is supposed to be a fun league why are they crowning championship teams? I would find it a little odd if they didnt keep score at all, but the implications of the article are that, at least among some of the adults in the league, being part of (sponsoring, coaching, whatever) the championship team is an important thing.
Of course, as noted in Solomons article, I have to wonder what sort of system is in place that would allow a team that already has a perfect record (4-0 at the time) pick up two kids from the league. As I noted earlier, it sounds like this leagues rule system isnt very well structured and as such, instances such as this occur and cannot be handled within the rules because rules dont exist that can handle the situation. While the league does have a pitch count rule, it doesnt sound like it has a total innings pitched/pitches thrown per week setup. Implementing something like the 6 innings per week/3 days rest after four innings system used by Little League baseball would prevent these sorts of things from happening.
Implementing a draft system for players overseen by league officials with set guidelines will generally prevent teams from being able to stack talent. Its not a foolproof system, and wont work if coaches make poor draft decisions, but certainly it is better than the outright recruitment system that is not working in the best interest of the league. In this type of system, the league would hold a tryout where coaches would be able to rank the players based on their skills and teams would enter into an ordered draft to pick the players. Any players that will not be able to participate until later in the season still need to try out and be eligible to be drafted by any team, that team will just have to play with an empty roster slot until that player is available.

Well... where to begin? The thick fog. The surging crowd. The lack of cell access. Radiohead. The sound dropping out?

Our buddy Chris was one of the first people in line. He was in the festival by 3pm and put down a tarp in front of the soundboard for the main stage. We figured that would be our home base.

We caught Steel Pulse to kick off the festivities. About twenty minutes into the set, we got word from other friends that it was a clusterfuck getting to Beck. Manu Chao was up next at the main stage. Ska-punk-reggae. They might have been from Mexico because I saw a bunch of guys waving a Mexican flag in front of me. They lead singer spoke a bit of Spanish, and I later found out that he's from Europe and not Mexico.

Anyway, a few minutes into Manu Chao, we had to make a serious decision. Fight the crowds to check out the end of Beck or defend our territory for Radiohead. Our tarp was being over run and every few minutes it seemed like another thousand people jammed into the area in front of the soundboard.

A few minutes before Radiohead began, a friend of a friend (and I wish I remembered his name) offered me some liquid. He dropped a puddle in my hand. I asked for two. Yeah, that was a bad idea. So our entire crew was dosed and space was as tight as hell.

I did my best to jot down the setlist, but I only wrote down the first three songs. After that it was pure mayhem. When the sound went out the first time during Airbag, that's when we felt the waves of people pushing and shoving and it felt like being on Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras when you have zero control about where you are going and the massive crowd pushes you back and forth.

I heard there was 60,000 people at Radiohead. The way the main stage was set up, it allowed people to filter intoa triangular area... but no way for anyone to filter out. So thousands of people surged forward and kept pushing forward. The scene in front of the soundboard was chaos. For a few moments, I felt that I was going to get trampled. I grabbed on tight to my girlfriend as the Joker and I stood shoulder to shoulder repelling wave after wave of bodies being hurled at us. At one point a kid tried to crowd surf and I got punched in the face.

I've been to easily over a thousand of concerts and dozens and dozens of music festivals all over the world. I had never experienced a more hectic scene. Same goes for the Joker. At one point, I felt a tinge of panic. That's never good on a head full of acid... maybe, I might die tonight.

"It seemed like the band was clearly flustered. They were off their rhythm. And the crowd had no wear to go," said the Joker.

"If you weren't holding everyone back, I would have gotten trampled," said my girlfriend. "I had no where to move or dance."

It was one of those moments where you had to surrender to the flow. At times, it felt like I was in a hockey brawl. Other times, it felt like a massive group orgy. During the quieter songs, there were moments of clam and serenity. And during the faster songs, it was anarchy.

Imagine a packed subway car in Tokyo. And then people trying to dance like they are standing in an open field. Somehow, one chick in front of us managed to get some space to groove, while one teenaged girl behind me was sandwiched up against my back. She was trapped. Nowhere to go. The music blared. The crowd kept pushing back and forth and we all swayed. Her entire body was trapped except three fingers. And she used those three fingers to dance by tapping on my back and making circles and letting her three fingers go nuts.

The mayhem eased up a bit for the encore and we had some breathing room (and by that I mean no one with a elbow in your back). The Joker freaked out by hearing all the different languages spoken by fans. Radiohead has international appeal and their fans come from all over to see them play. For work, I travel a lot overseas, so I'm used to working in an international press room. Hearing Spanish, French, German, and Swedish is not uncommon for me. But for the Joker, all of the different languages fried his brain.

"They only speak English in Colorado," deadpanned the Joker.

The set ended and we slowly made our way off of the polo fields. At that point, the doses really kicked in. I could barely see with the heavy fog that descended upon the field and all I recall where the pretty lights reflecting onto the fog cover. Somehow, pure instinct took over and I guided our crew out of the festival grounds despite a short detour through some trees. I heard that people were jumping fences to get out.

The festival organizers fucked up a few things. The sound going out was atrocious and an embarrassment. You could sense how pissed off Thom Yorke was. And the set up was poor. They lacked adequate space to allow people to walk to and from different stages, which caused bottlenecks.

We walked through the park and back to our hotel next to the Kezar Pub. I was drenched in sweat. I dunno how we made it out of the Radiohead clusterfuck mosh pit alive, let alone navigated out of the park and back to our hotel. It wasn't until I jumped in the shower and got bombarded by the insane visuals (multi-colored droplets of water not to mention the breathing wall paper). That's when I realized that I was way wasted. Too wasted. I'm shocked that I was able to keep it together and not freak out during the chaos.

"I"m bugging out!" as Johnny Drama would say.

We skipped the after show at 12 Galaxies. None of us could drive and grabbing a muni seemed to complicated. We holed up in our suite and blasted Phish and literally starred at the walls until the visuals wore off.

Yeah, two was a bad idea. It wasn't until almost twelve hours after the show where the Joker and I sat down and tried to sketch together the insanity from last night.

One night down, two more to go. Let's hope I don't get my face stepped on.

Hand 2: Cat on button with JQs, raises to $12 when folded around. SB 3-bets to $36. I float him since we both have more than $500 on the table. Flop is xJK. He checks, I bet out $40. The dude, who reminds me of Tromley on the HBO miniseries Generation Kill, thinks about it and then asks me if I'll show if I fold. I shrug and say "Mebbe."

He folds and out of kindness I spread out the cards and say, "Pick one." He picks the one on the left, which is a J.

So the rest of the time he's thinking I hit my set and this 40-year-old guy wearing Full Tilt hat and shirt says I had KJ. The Tromley look-alike said he had QQ.

I play it up by saying the other card was a deuce and later that I thought I had 22. lol.

I left for Bally's and Bill's Gambling Hall later on, prolly my latest Saturday night in Vegas in memory. The graveyard supervisor at Bally's twice did not come up to seat me so I left both times.

Bill's poker room is just two tables near the Strip entrance. So I did not play there.

Recently I put together a golf day for a group of beginners who wanted a total golfing experience.  Holly and the other ladies were determined to try all that golf could offer and we put together a day that covered all aspects of the game and culminated in a Texas scramble tournament on the course.
It is very unusual for complete beginners to get onto the course after a single day’s coaching but I was confident I could get them to a standard where they would all enjoy themselves. 
We started with a light lunch to provide some much needed energy and then proceeded to an intensive 90 minutes on the range where we focused on the basic elements of the swing.  I have to say that all the ladies showed a real enthusiasm to learn the swing and there were some fine shots hit during the session.
After the long game coaching we took a few minutes to grab a drink and rest from the afternoon heat before we headed to the short game area.  In our second 90 minute coaching session of the day I covered the basics of putting and chipping.  This was a session aimed at providing the essentials in putting including reading greens and then worked on chipping with a variety of different clubs to ensure that when we got into the course later in the day all of the ladies were well equipped to deal with the golf course challenge.
My fellow Premium Golf Schools pro Jeremy Lay joined me for the Texas Scramble competition and we split the ladies into two groups of four.  Learning the game and getting on the course on the same day can be a daunting experience, but we played Texas Scramble format which allows for a few “interesting” shots to be discarded as we select the best shot from the four and then all play form there until we hole out.  This is by far the best way to start learning the game on the course without the added pressure of playing your own ball all the way round.
The competition was played in good spirits and a number of Pars were recorded along the way.  All the ladies enjoyed the challenge and relished in the rivalry between fourballs!
After the game we finished off with a cold drink on the balcony and discussed the day’s events, I would like to thank Holly for all her efforts in coordinating the day and all the ladies for their hard work and enthusiasm.
