here. Perhaps realizing that, as a public institution, such naked viewpoint discrimination could not fly, the school went the next step and banned all signs.

At a policy level, this just seems stupid. Schools actively encourage expressive creativity in their fans, yet turn around and cut-off the often-most-creative medium (Reilly gives some examples of clever signs; my favorite, from a Boston Bruins game in the 1970s: "JESUS SAVES AND ESPOSITO SCORES ON THE REBOUND"). Reilly is especially fascinated by the irony of this occurring at the university founded by Thomas Jefferson.

At a constitutional level, the effort is too clever by a half and still will fail. The blanket ban is content neutral on its face. Although motivated by a desire to halt particular speech, courts generally will not look beneath the explicit scope of a ban and into government motive when evaluating content neutrality. The fact that the school believed a blanket ban on all signs was the most constitutional approach illustrates one of the ironies of the focus on content discrimination--government is on safer ground by restricting a greater amount of speech than with a narrower restriction, if it seems to be picking and choosing among speakers and messages.

But even a content-neutral rule must satisfy intermediate scrutiny and I am pretty sure this cannot. First, it cuts off an entire unique medium of communication (written communication); the fact that fans still are encouraged to provide "vocal support" (in the words of the school's associate athletics director) does not overcome the loss of an entire medium. This is especially true if the remaining medium (oral cheering) does not allow speakers to express the same ideas in the same (possibly) creative and meaningful way. Thinking about the sorts of signs we see at sporting events, they do not translate orally.

Second, intermediate scrutiny still requires an important or significant government interest be served and I am not sure what U. Va.'s interest is. Is it making sure that views are not obstructed by fans waving signs? A blanket ban is not tailored to meet that interest because narrower regulations (limits on the size and shape of signs or the circumstances in which signs can be waved or displayed) would effectively serve that interest. Reilly tells the story of one U. Va. student who, after having several signs confiscated, went to the game with a message on a piece of notebook paper, which still was confiscated, although I am not sure how it obstructed or interfered with any other fans. Plus, the policy also does not define what a "sign" is, leaving open the possibility that it will include t-shirts or painted bodies, which clearly do not implicate the obstruction concern.

Is it not wanting the distraction to fans and players that comes with signs? That interest does not seem to be unrelated to the content of the message on the particular sign (in other words, it is not content-neutral). The distraction comes from the words on the sign, not from the mere presence on the sign. Actually, we could test this by adopting one of Reilly's suggested forms of disobedience--bring in a blank sign and see what happens.

U Va. is, not surprisingly, getting some negative media attention on this one. In part, this may be because the sign that triggered the policy, while negative, was not profane or offensive (compare the attempted regulations at the University of Maryland several years ago in response to profane and homophobic chants). In part, it is because, while the regulation is formally neutral, it clearly is motivated by a desire to stop criticism of the team, the coaches, and (indirectly) the administration--in other words, it smells like an attempt by the government to stop people from criticizing it. My prediction is that the policy is rescinded fairly soon, at least as soon as the first lawsuit is threatened.

Youre probably wondering why the combustion process wouldnt already be efficient since it was designed by top engineers at auto manufacturers, and why supplemental hydrogen isnt incorporated into our automobiles today. The answer is found in a questionWhen a new automobile is designed, who is it designed for? EVERYONE. When new cars are made, they have to be marketable not just on the basis of fuel us economy, but also on the basis of horsepower, torque, and user intervention. So you might be seeking the highest MPG rating while someone else will see horsepower as a major buying factor. Even the person seeking highest MPG might not purchase a supplemental hydrogen automobile if he/she would have to regularly check and refill not only the petrol but also the water and electrolyte used to produce the hydroxy gas. This is where user intervention becomes a factor. You see? Every car design is a COMPROMISE. It can have to be marketable to a large demographic of drivers.
So, by using a hydrogen generator we are largely taking a truck thats compromised and inefficient and bringing it up to a higher level of efficient combustion. This benefit can then be directed to either improved horsepower or better fuel us economy, based on the users preference.
How does it work?
A on-board hydrogen generator consists of a fuel pre-heater assembly, an electrolyzer, and an ECU (automobile computer) compensation method. When the system is used with fuel additives such as xylene and acetone, along knowing good driving habits, it can produce dramatic results in fuel economy, sometimes through 50%. Horsepower is also drastically increased if the air/fuel ratio is not modified, because hydroxy gas is very combustable, much like nitrous oxide used in racing cars.
Fuel Pre-heater: A fuel preheater is a simple device, usually assembled of a heat conducting metal such as brass, copper, nickel or aluminum. It is placed on the radiator hose of the automobile and wrapped in a thermal blanket. It uses otherwise wasted heat to preheat the gasoline before it reaches the fuel injection manifold or carburetor. This helps expand the dense fuel molecules, making them closer to full vaporization temperature by the time the fuel reaches the combustion chamber.
Electrolyzer: This is the heart of the system. An electrolyzer uses the process of electrolysis to change water into hydroxy gas. (hydrogen and oxygen gas) It consists of electrodes that produce hydroxy gas when submerged in water made conductive in light of electrolyte, such as potassium hydroxide. Electrical current from the automobiles battery is then applied. A substancial amount of hydroxy gas must be produced by an electrolyzer to make the combustion process detailed information efficient. The standard of gas production is measured in liters per minute. (LPM) 1 LPM is considered baseline for a functional supplemental hydrogen generator. The hydroxy gas output of the electrolyzer is routed to the vehicles air intake and vacuum intake manifold. The smaller molecules of the hydroxy gas strike the larger pre-heated oil molecules, breaking down the covalent bonds even further and atomizing the automotive fuels, year adding a combustable catalyst.
ECU Compensation method: If an generator is used in a car and nothing specific details is installed, little or no gains in combustion efficiency/MPG will be seen. This is because the ECU of the automobile will detect additional info oxygen in the exhaust via the oxygen sensors. Specific details oxygen in the exhaust usually tells the ECU your vehicle the fuel mixture is running lean, seeing too much air being mixed into it via the air intake. It then compensates by adding additional info petrol to the mixture, and reducing the air induction, which defeats the gains of the on-board hydrogen system. The combustion of hydroxy gas produces a large enhance in oxygen in the exhaust, therefore to see gains you must compensate for this. Compensation methods currently being employed are:
1.E.F.I.E. electronic fuel injection enhancer: This device manipulates the voltages relayed to the ECU via the oxygen sensors. By telling the ECU the fuel mixture is rich, it will tell the fuel injectors to inject less gasl and use specific details hydroxy. It can be purchased online by numerous retailers, or you can build your own.
2.MAP/MAF sensor enhancer: this device manipulates the voltages being sent to the ECU from the MAP or MAF sensor, effectively controlling the air/fuel ratio.
3.Oxygen sensor offset sleeves/wrapping in aluminum foil. These 2 methods of O2 sensor tweaking effectively reduce some of the sensors ability to detect oxygen, effectively leaning the air/fuel ratio.
Fuel Additives: Acetone and Xylene additives have been proven to enhance fuel us economy by breaking down the covalent bonds of the petrol molecules, making them easier to atomize and ignite in the combustion process.
Emission/pollution reduction
Emissions and air pollution from your automobile are greatly reduced while using supplemental hydrogen because detailed information of your petroleum is being completely used up and not being burned in your catalytic converter. The biproduct of burning hydroxy gas is heated water vapor, which steam cleans the inside of your engine and removes damaging carbon build ups and performance robbing sludge. Using a hydrogen electrolysis system helps the environment twice by decreasing fuel dependency year also reducing pollutants.
CONCLUSION
By using a properly installed on-demand hydrogen generator the user and the environment will greatly benefit. All thats needed is a small amount of user intervention by refilling the water and electrolyte of the generator based on individual use. If additional info people would employ this system we could effectively reduce dependency on foreign oil, long time also preventing damage to our environment. Why not assemble and install a system of your own today.

Coach Peterman has creds of his own, having coached at (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. What hes done is assemble basketball IQ from some of the greatest basketball minds in history.
The Hoop Scoop notes are personal notes - usually handwritten notes - of some of the greatest coaches ever to step on the court.
This is the personal insight of some of the greatest coaching minds. I think anyone who loves the game of basketball, coaches basketball at any level or plays basketball at any level should have a copy.

Riding a 19-0 run that started late in the second quarter and stretched until almost four minutes into the third period, the 2008 U.S. Men's Olympic Team (6-0) demolished Australia (3-3) in the second and third quarters on its way to a 116-85 win and a 2008 Olympic semifinal berth Wednesday night at Wukesong Arena in Beijing, China. The victory improved the USA record to 6-0 and advanced the squad into the semifinals.
Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) turned in a 25-point performance as all 12 U.S. players scored in the contest, including five in double figures.
The USA will face reigning Olympic champion Argentina (5-1) in the semifinals at 10:15 p.m. (10:15 a.m. EDT) on Friday, setting up a rematch of the 2004 Olympic semifinals when Argentina beat the USA 89-81. Argentina advanced to play the USA after surviving Greece 80-78 in today's late game.
We want to play the best. We want to play the defending champs, said Bryant. It's all about challenges, and obviously, we welcome all comers. Argentina is the defending champs. You want to be able to play the guys who won it the last time.
In the 8:00 p.m. semifinal game, Spain (5-1), which earlier today topped Croatia 72-59, will play Lithuania (5-1), which downed China 94-68. The Olympic men's gold and bronze medal games will be held Aug. 24 at 2:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m., respectively.

While the USA shot an impressive 56.6 percent from the field (43-76 FGs), Bryant was 4-of-7 from 3-point to help the USA tie the U.S. Olympic record for 3-point field goals made with 12 for a second time in this tournament and set a new mark for 3-pointers attempted with 29.
I think myself and Melo and the rest of our shooters, Michael Redd, we're starting to get a good rhythm for our shots, Bryant said. And, it couldn't come at a better time. Being that it's do-or-die, it's go time. This is what we came here for, and we're all ready to go. Money's on the line.
The USA raced to a nine-point lead to start the game behind points from four U.S. scorers, and a James 3-pointer with 6:41 on the clock brought the tally to 12-3 in the USA's favor. Following two points from Australia, the USA again compiled four consecutive points, and Australia called its first timeout after a Wade fast break increased the U.S. lead to 37-30 at 6:43. The next four minutes were back and forth as both teams tallied 13 points, and the scoreboard read 50-43 when Australia's Brad Newley sank a three with 1:48 remaining before halftime.
That was as close as Australia would get for the remainder of the game. The score reached 55-43 after Bryant scored off an offensive rebound and Williams pulled up in transition with a 3-pointer to just beat the halftime buzzer.
When I caught it, it was about three seconds, Williams recalled. I could make it to the basket, but he (the Australian defender) kept backing up. That was my first thought. If he came up and challenged me, he was a big man, then I was going to try and get to the basket. But he kept backing up and I just rose up for the three.
The momentum, and the run, carried through the break for the USA. The red, white and blue sank three 3-pointers in the first 3:23 of the third period, including two from Bryant, as it raced to 14 unanswered points. The 19-0 run, which included 10 points from Bryant, was interrupted by a 3-pointer from Australia's Patrick Mills with 6:01 on the clock, but the Aussie response was too little too late.
(Kobe) had a great performance, and he came up when we needed it the most, right at the start of the second half, Krzyzewski said. It was such a possession by possession game, we were lucky that Deron hit that shot right at the end of the first half.
Having recorded just two assists in the first half, the USA went on to record nine assists on 12 made field goals in the third quarter to outscore Australia 34-19 in the period and stretch its lead to 28 points, 89-61, headed into the final 10 minutes.
With the game's outcome decided Australia never gave up, but the USA offense continued to overpower its opponent. With the help of six more points from Bryant and five from Williams and Michael Redd (Milwaukee Bucks) the USA tallied 27 points to Australia's 24 to bring the game to its final score of 116-85.
While the USA dominated the boards, outrebounding Australia 57-28, including 19 on the offensive glass, the Americans struggled from the free throw line, shooting just 58.1 percent (18-31 FTs) from the charity stripe.
The USA has played Argentina four times in Olympic action, recording wins on three occasions and a loss in the 2004 Olympic semifinals. The USA topped Argentina 96-68 in 2000, 85-76 in 1952 and 59-57 in 1948. Handing Argentina a 96-81 setback in the bronze medal game of the 2006 FIBA World Championship, and additionally, the USA beat a less-than-full strength Argentina squad twice in the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship, 91-76 in second round action and 118-81 in the gold medal game. On Saturday, August 16th, my wifes old high school friend died in surgery at Duke Medical Center. I only met her a few times, but we immediately connected on the subject of Duke basketball. I have never met a greater fan. My wife, Amy, asked me to post this as a remembrance:
Exactly 20 years ago this month, I started my freshman year at Bishop McGuiness High School in Winston- Salem and met my friend Laura Gendy-this unusually quiet, well mannered, short, studious, goody two shoed Egyptian girl who barely spoke and I thought there is no way in hell we would ever be friends.she was just too different for my taste. Well, my bad attitude was quickly remedied as I got to know this slightly irreverant but perfectly Catholic model straight A student; there was something irristably charming about Laura and I loved having her in my circle of friends. We sat together in our classes, during mass, during lunch; after school.as the years progressed and we could drive; we spent time together just hanging out. Laura somehow knew something about everybody that we did not know- she just seemed to always be filled with new information about everything. So, it was how we stayed in the know about what was going on.
Lauras legacy is her insanley completely devoted loyal passionate love for Duke Basketball. I did not give a rip about basketball, let alone Duke University, until I met Laura. After meeting Laura, I quickly learned the names of players, developed a crush on Christian Laettner, and grew an appreciation for the artistry of Bobby Hurleys pass. I started to think Coach K was the smartest and greatest person ever; and even learned to forgive his funny voice. I have never been quite sure how Laura became so in love with the Duke Basketball program.I mean none of us went there or had any real ties to the place; but let me tell you- in a world where UNC was king; there was no love truer than what Laura had for Duke Basketball. The day Laettner hit The Shot was one of the happiest days in Lauras life. She was on Cloud 9 for weeks. To our shock, Laura went to UNC- but remained as loyal and true to Duke. She endured the hisses as she proudly donned her devil blue sweatshirts around Chapel Hill..she went to all the games and screamed for her beloved Blue Devils every chance she got. She called me while we were in college (I went to App State) and told me she was even vistited by Grant Hill in her UNC dormroom (he was dating a girl who lived in her dorm). Her love for the team even drove some of the players girlfriends crazy as they accused her of being a stalker(she may have been), but they had no idea who they were dealing with. One year she even recieved a birthday card from Coach Ks office.
Laura and I lost touch after a few years out of high school but reconnected in 2002and it was like no time had passed at all. She told me she approved of by my husband- not for his charm; his smile or his warm spirit; but for his love of Duke Basketball. I am happy to say we got together a number of times since reconnecting, and I heard from her shortly after my daughter was born last February.
